My friend Rana left me a voice note on January 17th. She had lost everything.
As soon as I heard her raw voice, I thought, “Oh shit, I guess I’m making something with this.” I called Stephanie to come over so we could record strings under Rana's message. The next morning I was in a helicopter and was utterly astonished by the scale of what I saw.
I realized that my friends' loss mirrored my own loss of country and loss of the past. Something shared by so many in Los Angeles right now.
