Photofilms
I began making photofilms when I was naturalized as an American citizen. I photographed the event in B&W film with a shallow depth of field, choosing to focus on the flag vs people's faces. I then projected the photos using 2 slide projectors that I would change at high speed, creating a flip-book effect, to music.
I later recreated the process with digital cameras and animation. The music video for the artist Jem (with 7M+ views) was made from over 65,000 photos with her mouth sync'ed to music.
My favorite project is "A Sad Day", the first film on this page, made when a friend had gotten some bad news and allowed me to document the moment. For the x-ray lab, we ran lines along the ceilings for the cameras to travel along.
